The Super Fun Science Fair

 In Te Ngahere we have been doing science fair. We got to pick our groups and I picked Charlize and Azure our experiments was “Does the 5 second rule affect your health”. I learnt what independent variables mean,it means what you will change deliberately in your experiment also controlled variables means what you will keep the same in your experiment. My group and I found it difficult to complete all of our slides and then do our testing . Next time we do the science fair I think we will do a different experiment and choose a different group. The hoe I was using was Kaha ,which means being strong. I used this Hoe because I was very scared to show our board to other people but I picked up my Hoe and got through the day.

The Super Fun Scientific Method

 In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the scientific method. We could use Google drawings,canva and easily. In this learning project I learnt you first ask a question then you research and gather information about your hypothesis (guess) and then you experiment on your guess. We were learning this for our scientific projects so we understand  the scientific method. This will help me in the future because when I go to college I will already know about scientific method. I did well with showing the steps of the scientific method to other students so they will know what a scientific method is. I think I could do better with making my work look more professional and creative.

The Extremely Fun Science Show

 In Te Ngahere our class and I went to a science roadshow at Bay of Islands College. I learnt you can pop a balloon with a orange skin because the orange skin has limonene oil which will pop the balloon. It was really fun because I got to go up on stage and put this jelly in a type of liquid that made it a solid and it felt like dried up rubber. My favorite exhibit was when you had to slam plastic disc on different surfaces because it was very interesting see if the plastic disc went  further on carpet,smooth wood, lino or rubber. In fair testing I learnt that if you change one variable at a time you will know what helped your creation. This will help me in the future with my science fair project because now I understand about fair testing. Have you gone to a Science roadshow before?

The Amazing Maths Problem

 In Te Ngahere we did this fun maths problem, it was called how many legs in a barn. The problem said one third of the animals in the barn are chickens the rest are pigs. There are 20 legs altogether how many pigs are there? It was about fractions and I think I did well showing and explaining how me and my group got the answer. I think I can do better with asking my group if they understand or if they have questions to ask me. It was very fun and exciting because me and my group were the first ones to get the answer and to show how we figured out. The answer was 4 pigs in the barn because pigs have 4 legs and there was 2 chickens and chickens have two legs.

The Amazing Fun Cybersmart Fish Tank

 In Te Ngahere we did a fun activity it was about how to make a fish on a Google drawing. We used  shapes to make fish and anything else in the ocean it was super fun and very hard. We did this Google drawing to show our learning and a creative way. I think I did well  making all these different creatures out of shapes. I think I could do better making my creatures looks more interesting and bigger to take up more space. I think this will help me in the future to make my work look more exciting and interesting. This was very fun and  very hard at the same time because it was hard to get all these shapes to look like fish and sea creatures. Have you made fish out of shapes before?

The Amazing Mother's Day

 On Sunday the 9th May it was Mother's Day. My aunty & I went to the shops to get breakfast for my mum, we also got her some presents. I got her some lollies and a Mother's Day card. My aunty made breakfast for her we had bacon, eggs, toast and hash browns. She was still sleeping then she woke up and we gave her breakfast. I had to write a lot of sentences in the card, when I was finished I drew her a little picture on the card. Then I gave her the lollies and the card, she also let us have one candy each. We also cleaned up the house for her because it was very messy she also told us she was having the greatest Mother's Day ever.

Making Extremely Hard Catapults

 In Te Ngahere we did a fun challenge it was about teamwork and following instructions. We learnt about kinetic energy and potential energy. Potential energy is when energy gets stored inside of an object and when it moves its kinetic energy. For example a bowling ball has potential energy when it is still but when you push it down a slide it turns into kinetic energy because it is moving, Kinetic energy is when something moves. 

We did this challenge for collaborating, working as a team, for our brains and asking questions. I found working as a team challenging because we all had different ideas and we didn't talk to each other or ask questions. I think I found it easy working with each other because we used our ideas and combinesd them in to one idea. Next time I think we will try to work as a team and let everyone come up with ideas and share them.

The Hardest Test I Have Ever Done

 In Te Ngahere we did a reading test to see if we can follow instructions. The teacher gave us a piece of paper and on that piece of paper were instructions we had to follow. There were 23 questions on the sheet and we only had 4 minutes to finish the sheet. I started off okay and I thought it was easy. Then I got closer to the last question on the sheet. When I got up to question 16 I saw that I did it wrong because the last question said: “only do question 1 and 2 then flip your paper and draw on the back”. I couldn't be bothered reading all 23 questions so I skipped them and read them one by one going down on the sheet . Next time we do a reading test, I will carefully read out all the questions before I start writing. It was funny because everyone said they were the master at following instructions but we were all wrong. Do you think you can read instructions carefully?

The Amazing Things We Learnt About The Coastal Seas

 In Te Ngahere we have learning about the Coastal Seas and all the animals that live there. We had to watch a Netflix programme that was called Our Planet. it was phenomenal. We had to have 10 facts about sea creatures and plants. I did facts about Manta rays, Gray sharks, Sea unchins, Kelp Forests and Sea Lions.

Did you know that Humpback whales  arrive at the coast of Aaska hoping to get their first meal in months? Manta rays grow 7 meters wide from the right tip to the left tip of the wings. The bottlenose dolphins make a  mud circle around their prey. The prey jump and the bottlenose dolphins eat the fish because the fish jump into their mouths.

Things We Learnt How to Keep Our Drive Clean

 In Te Ngahere we had to fill out a google slide it was about how to keep our drive clean. We had to make sure  that all of our google docs and google drawings are all filed and in a folder. On the google slide we had some games that we had to figured out, they were about what folder does each doc and google drawing go in.  We had to put circles around the ones  that didn't say where they go or if they have no title. 

After that we had to go to our drive and file all of the docs that were not filled or we could make a new folder and put them in there. Once we did that we had to take a picture of our drive and put it on the slide. Have you ever cleaned your drive before?

Mind Blowing Things About The Tui

 In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the native bush and the critters that live in the bush. We had to find research about any animal in the native bush. We went for a walk to see if we can see the animals we did our research about. There were a lot of producers and a little bit of consumers. Producers are trees and consumers are the birds. I picked the tui before I began my research I already knew a few facts about the tui such as, what they eat, what they look like and that they have little pom poms on their neck that help them sing. Through my research, which I mostly used google for I found out what the tuis  scientific name was, it is  Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae and that there are actually two subspecies of tui, there is the New Zealand Tui and the Chatham Island tui. Tui can be very territorial and aggressive if they are feeding from a tree they may get very vocal and chase away others including other tui. 

After doing my research I now know that they're actually are two kinds of tui and tui’s may get really aggressive when it comes to feeding or territorial.

The Challenging Teamwork Challenge

 In Te Ngahere we have been learning about teamwork and collaboration. We did a challenge to help us collaborate with our learning group and work as a team. The teacher drew somethings things on a piece of paper and stuck it on the window outside.

There were two runners and one drawer. One of the runners ran outside to see the drawing, then came back inside and described the drawing without touching or pointing at the paper.

On the first round I was away but the second time I was here. It was challenging because I was a runner and it was frustrating because the drawer didn’t know what I was talking about and I couldn't touch the piece of paper to point were the drawing went. The thing that worked out was River went side to side and if I said yes, that was were the drawing goes. Have you done a teamwork challenge?

Wonderful Interesting Facts About Mutualism

 In Te Ngahere we have been learning about mutualism. Mutualism is when two organisms help each other like the tree and the bird.

Birds are the primary pollinators and seed dispensers in New Zealand native bush. Some trees are all pollinated by birds. Some  birds are attracted to the flowers of  trees and carry pollen from flower to flower. Trees help birds because they have shelter for their nest and food  because of the berries and some insects on and in the tree .

If there were no trees the birds would have nowhere to go.There would not be that much oxygen for us to breath and so birds that only eat berries off trees will  die. Did you know tree is a producer and a bird is a consumer and the decomposer  is bacteria?

The Scary Quick Tsunami Evacuation

 

In the Bay of Islands there was a tsunami evacuation.  There were tsunami sirens going off.

We had to go to higher ground. I was with my nana. My nana quickly

got us to go into the car we went

to the shops and got food and water. We went up to my nana’s brothers farm.

Then we went up this bumpy long  hill we  went around and around,

the hill was super bumpy because it was a gravel road and it was a bunch

of hard pointy sharp rocks. We had to stay up on the hill until we got a message

that the tsunami was gone.

I was so anxious and scared I wanted to see but I was scared.

I was super scared and worried about my mum.

Up on the hill it was boring but I had my uncles to play with.

Onces the tsunami was over I felt so relieved and happy.

Mind Blowing Facts About Roy Lichtenstein

 In Te Ngahere we have been learning facts about Roy Lichtenstein,his famous pop art and his bright colours . We had to find 6 facts about Roy  Lichtenstein. 

I found out Roy Lichtenstein was born in 1923 in New York and Roy Lichtenstein sold a painting  for more than 55 million dollars in 2013.

Also Roy  Lichtenstein  made different types of art including sculptures,

murals, prints and ceramics. Some of Roy Lichtenstein  paintings are everyday objects.

I learnt how to use  the same technique as Roy Lichtenstein using some ben day dots and some bright colours for my art work.

Amazing Facts About The Ecosystem

 In Te Ngahere we have be learning about the ecosystem. The ecosystem has  a solar energy/sun,producer/plant , decomposer/ bacteria ,

and a consumer/ animals.They are all important if there was one missing it would be a disaster because the ecosystem all needs them.

 If there was no sun the producer would not produce any more plants and the animals that eat the plants will die then the

meat eating animal die to because all of it’s

food will be gone.

Or if there was to much plant eating animals all

of the plants would be gone and the grass and

then people will start eating meat and all of

the animals will be gone.

Things You Need to know About The Kawa Of Care

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the kawa of care.

We could  choose  if we wanted to make a Google slide or comic  and a DLO I wanted to make a comic my comic was about no eating next to your chromebook. 

There are  important rules about your chromebook first you have to make sure  you don’t eat next to your chromebook because

the food might get stuck in the keyboards and second  don’t forget to keep your chromebook in a safe place so no one can steal it

  also make sure you don’t leave your chromebook on the couch because someone

might sit on  it.
